There are several treatments available, choosing one or the other depends on several factors, including age and extent of hair loss. Alopecia areata can occur in two forms, a form in which it falls below 50% of the hair of the head and one that falls more than 50% of the hair.

These two forms of alopecia areata behave quite differently and the choice of treatment depends on whether it occurs in one form or another. Current treatments for alopecia areata not definitively eliminate its effect is to make the hair grow back and in general treatment is needed for quite some time until the disease is no longer active.

WHAT treatment are recommended for alopecia areata MODERATE OR PATCH?

Topical or locally injected corticosteroids: In forms of moderate patchy alopecia most suitable treatment is the injection of cortisone. This treatment involves the injection in the plaque of alopecia by using a thin needle or a pressure injection system without a needle. These injections must be repeated every four to six weeks. Produce a slight discomfort that disappears quickly. Generally produce hair growth in about 4 weeks.

This treatment does not appear that prevents new stains. There are very few side effects to these injections sometimes produced a slight depressions at the site of injections that are resolved spontaneously.

Anthralin: Another treatment for alopecia areata patches of moderate intensity is the application of anthralin creams. Anthralin is a derivative of tar has been used extensively in the treatment of psoriasis. Anthralin is applied generally in the areas of alopecia for half an hour or an hour. It is often observed new hair growth at 12 weeks of application of the cream. Anthralin may cause moderate skin irritation and a slight pigmentation. Must be used with care not to apply it in their eyes as it can be irritating and should wash hands thoroughly after applying.

Topical Minoxidil: Minoxidil is a medication used to treat people with high blood pressure. A side effect of this medication was the tendency to cause increased hair growth in various parts of the body. Studies have shown that topical application of minoxidil may also produce some answers in alopecia areata. Usually requires the application of this product twice a day and association with retinoic acid appears to increase the responses. Unfortunately the application of minoxidil is not usually useful in patients with extensive alopecia.

Treatment of alopecia areata EXTENSIVE, alopecia totalis and alopecia universalis

Corticosteroids: Medications containing cortisone are sometimes used to treat long hair falling, especially if it is a very quick introduction. Cortisone taken by mouth is much stronger than that applied by intralesional injection. It is necessary to evaluate the side effects of this medication when using this drug. Young people in general is very well tolerated medication. In general, this medication is used in very few patients and the need to manage for a while and the hair tends to fall again when the medication is stopped.

Allergic contact dermatitis: Another approach to the treatment of extensive alopecia areata or alopecia totalis-universal is the production of allergic contact dermatitis. Currently the most widely used chemical is diphencyprone has also been used dinitroclorobenzena (DNCB) and escuarico acid ester, these chemicals are applied to the scalp and cause an allergic reaction. Over 50% of patients treated with these substances respond to treatment with hair growth. Patients who respond require the use of a continuous treatment until the disease disappears. These substances can cause acute injuries very itchy eczema, which is especially annoying in the summer and when wearing a wig. Patients using these treatments must be careful not to apply the liquid in other parts of the body.

PUVA: Some patients with extensive alopecia areata can be treated with PUVA, this treatment is a combination of a photosensitive drug (psoralen) and ultraviolet light of long wavelength (UVA). in a small group of patients can achieve hair growth by this treatment. This treatment needs to be applied from 2 to 5 times per week for several months, which is very uncomfortable for the patient because it requires many trips and visits to the clinic of dermatologist

WIGS: In patients with extensive alopecia treatment is not easy, so that the use of a wig is highly recommended. There are several ways to wear a wig so that no note and no discards.

Alopecia areata is a common disease that causes loss of hair on the head and other body areas. Usually starts as small round plates that can be solitary or multiple affecting the scalp. Can appear in all ages but is most common in young adults.

Under normal conditions, consistently produces scalp hair. In patients with alopecia areata affected hair suffer a very marked decrease in hair production. The hair of the affected areas become very small and the scalp surface can not be seen for some time The scalp follicles remain under the skin in a dormant state and can get to make new hair when they receive adequate signal.

Some people develop only few plaques were alopecia and hair grows back in a period of one year, even without treatment. The scalp is the area that is affected most frequently, but in men is frequently involved with the beard and any surface of the skin that has hair, this can occur with or without involvement of the scalp.

In some patients, alopecia areata extending to involve the entire scalp, then called alopecia totalis, some patients even lose hair around the body, then called alopecia universalis. Regardless of the form of alopecia, in all cases the hair follicles remain alive below the skin and the possibility of producing hair again there.

WHAT CAUSES THE DISEASE MAKES appear or disappear?

No one knows for sure, more and more data that there is an immunological signal in the development of this disease. Current studies suggest that alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease in which the same body makes antibodies against part of the hair follicle, is a form of autoalergia. In patients with alopecia areata may show antibodies to other parts of the body even without existing disease in them.

Is Alopecia Areata HEREDITARY?

The estate may have something to do on occasion. In one of every 5 patients with alopecia areata (20%) there is someone else in the family with the same disease. Alopecia areata is more common in families where there is a member with asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis or eczema or other autoimmune diseases such as thyroid disease, vitiligo, juvenile diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus erythematosus, pernicious anemia or disease Adison.

WHAT ELSE CAN AFFECT THE BODY?

In some patients develop a pitting nails similar to what would be sticking a needle many times, in some nail involvement may be very important. But except for the hair and nails can not affect other body parts

How will alopecia areata AFFECT MY DAILY LIFE?

In relation to health impairment, alopecia areata does not affect anything. Patients with alopecia areata are in perfect health. In the emotional involvement may be especially important in patients with extensive involvement. One of the objectives of the National Alopecia Areata Foundation is to help patients with alopecia areata and their families to have a fully satisfactory life. There are thousands of patients with extensive alopecia areata that make a completely normal life. The emotional disorders that causes alopecia areata can be overcome with knowledge of reality and help from others. Sometimes it is necessary the help of a psychologist or social worker to develop self confidence.

Will my HAIR GROW AGAIN?

Yes, the hair can always grow back because the follicles are present under the skin

Alopecia Areata IS DUE TO THE NERVES?

No, alopecia areata is not due to any disease of the nerves, however, certain situations of conflict or stress may favor the development of plaques of alopecia areata. From another point of view, alopecia areata itself causes stress situations for the patient and family

DO I NEED TO CHANGE PLANS OF LIFE IN RELATION TO THE STUDY, WORK, SPORTS, FRIENDS, ETC.?

Not at all, patients with alopecia areata should make a completely normal life

The fox lost his hair but not the tricks. In fact, it loses twice a year.

The word “alopecia” descends from the Greek word “Alopex” which means “fox.” The Royal Spanish Academy defines alopecia as “fall or pathological loss of hair.” Maybe it’s a short definition but it is more than right.

Alopecia is the fall prematurely or absence of hair in one or more parts of the body. Its causes are many and the types of alopecia are classified as follows:

Non-scarring alopecia:

They are very common and may improve or be cured through treatment and some even revert spontaneously without being treated. In this type of alopecia hair follicle has a pathological behavior but still alive unless alopecia extending over very long periods (common or androgenetic alopecia).

Can be classified as follows:

Androgenic alopecia, is also known as androgenetic alopecia or common baldness premature. It affects many men and women rarely.

If you suffer from androgenetic alopecia, as most men, I recommend having a look to the left and check on the Norwood Scale what type/grade of alopecia you have.

Will be very useful to know if any treatment can give results. If your level is very advanced (5, 6 or 7) will have to consider surgery or simply accept that you are bald. There are no treatments that have proven effective in less advanced degrees.

Androgens are the hormones responsible for hair loss and that is why many of the current treatments inhibit the production of them.

If baldness continues to advance and hair follicles die, the process becomes irreversible and no treatment to restore the situation. Can only be repaired by transplanting living follicles from other areas to the crown and tickets, a Hair transplant. Ideally, of course, is to fight the fall while the follicles are alive.

Women are more fortunate than the man as androgenetic alopecia appears only in the front of the scalp, leaving hair more sparse but on rare occasions it can be completely depopulated areas and in man.

Alopecia areata:

The cause is unknown but the symptoms are clear: head round patches of hair completely deserted. Alopecia totalis (AT) is when you completely lose scalp hair. In cases of Alopecia universalis (AU) is losing hair around the body.

There are still no fully effective treatments for this type of alopecia. Therapies that are used with medium results are: ultraviolet light, topical corticosteroids, steroid injections or to excite irritants follicle stimulating hair growth.

The partial or total loss of hair is called alopecia. Alopecia Areata is a type of alopecia that usually occurs in the form of plaques in the scalp, is characterized by patchy hair loss with microscopic inflammation that occurs in well-defined nummular areas.

Can occur at any age and affects both sexes equally. Is estimated to affect one in every thousand people and is often refractory to medical therapy.

The cause of alopecia areata specific, although about a fifth of all cases, is a family history of alopecia. This disease is occasionally associated with autoimmune diseases.

The primary symptom of alopecia areata is roundish patches of hair loss on the head, with smooth and scalp hair in affected areas.

Short hairs can be seen in the plate-shaped exclamation point. ”

Alopecia totalis involves the complete loss of all scalp and alopecia universalis is characterized by total loss of hair on the body.

Call your health care provider if you are concerned about hair loss.

If you start to notice that you hair falls out, it is important to go to a dermatologist to determine whether or not alopecia or other disorder that produces the alopecia.

There are no fully effective treatments, but Typical therapy may include:

• Topical corticosteroids of medium to very high power
• Subcutaneous (under the skin surface) steroid
• Ultraviolet light therapy

Irritants can be applied to hairless areas to promote regrowth. Sometimes a biopsy may be performed on the scalp.

It is common to Full recovery of hair, however, alopecia areata occurring at a young age, prolonged alopecia, or the presence of
eczema (atopic dermatitis) often predicts a poorer outcome.

The loss of hair permanently is a possible complication of alopecia areata.

Wondering why your father has a head full of hair at 60 years and you have your 30 years you start to see entries in your head? Well stop worrying! The concern could be the reason his hair began to fall in the first place. Let me explain … Many times the hair loss may be genetic or poor nutrition. Other times it is due to an illness or after surgery. Every case is different. However, it is very likely that you are losing hair because it has a lot of tension.

Stress is infamous for being the cause of a condition called alopecia areata. Alopecia areata hair growth stops, but for your peace of mind it only takes a few weeks to overcome if you take the proper treatment. You can be a man or a woman, a college student or a father. The stress does not matter who you are or how old you are. Our problem is how we get rid of him. How do we stop suffering alopecia areata?

First, you can stop worrying about your hair while being bald. Secondly … relax. You need to calm down and forget your worries as soon as possible. Life can be overwhelming to get, but do not let it get the best of you. Try taking a bath or start reading a book when you feel nervous. Do something like rearrange the furniture in your home or project. You can even see a specialist in hair loss if desired. You can always get to find a remedy to deal with hair loss.

An enhancer of serotonin widely known is the sun. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that not only increases your mood, but also increases self-esteem and motivation. Just think of all prescribed antidepressants designed to increase serotonin levels. That’s what drugs like Prozac and Zoloft do. The Sun is a natural remedy. A hundred times cheaper and available to anyone who is taking it. Try to get some sun when you wake up and maybe take a walk in the morning. Can reassure you and make you spend a better day believe it or not. This can relieve stress and stimulate hair growth.

If you are suffering from baldness, consider seeing a trichological or take some additional trips during the day to keep their spirits up. Alopecia areata is caused by stress and is a problem that everyone can relate. You have to step forward and improve our self esteem to recover hair.

As we know, alopecia is the scientific term used to describe the hair loss. Different types of alopecia, which stem from different causes and are expressed differently in the person who suffers in this article we will see the two most common types of alopecia.

Types of Alopecia, Androgenetic Alopecia

Androgenetic alopecia or hair loss male pattern has a genetic cause and affects 60% of men over 50 years.
